We were delighted to be invited back to the Tour of Britain with our pedal-powered interactive event activities. Not only do we get to be part of a fantastic cycling event, we also get to do what we love: getting more people pedalling!
Interactive activities are a great way to keep people entertained at large events, particularly when there’s downtime between the main attractions. They create atmosphere, get people talking and give visitors a reason to get involved, whether that’s riding a bike, making a smoothie or chasing bubbles.
The Tour of Britain was a great example of how the right event entertainment can help keep the energy going.
Why Interactive Activities Work at Events
At the Tour of Britain, the main attraction was seeing who would be first to race across the finish line. But with the riders not expected until around 3pm, there was plenty of time to build anticipation and keep spectators entertained.
Give people something free, unusual and fun to get involved with and they have another reason to stick around. More importantly, it becomes part of their experience of the day.
Our activities are designed to attract attention, encourage participation and create a bit of friendly competition. And our team is always on hand to encourage people of all ages to have a go.
Interactive Event Activities at the Tour of Britain
The Tour of Britain is a large-scale sporting event, with stages taking place in different locations and free for spectators to attend. That means a really varied audience, from dedicated cycling enthusiasts to families and children who may never have ridden a bike before.
That’s where our interactive activities came in, giving spectators something to participate in as well as something to watch.
Pedal-Powered Smoothie Bikes
With bikes suitable for both children and adults, almost anyone can jump on, start pedalling and blend their own smoothie.
It’s quick, visual and easy to understand, with the added bonus of walking away with a healthy, refreshing drink afterwards. Our smoothie bike hire is particularly popular for events promoting health, wellbeing, sustainability or active travel.
Supersize Scalextric
There’s something about a Scalextric track that brings out everyone’s competitive side!
We offer both standard and supersize Scalextric hire for events, so the set-up can be adapted depending on the space available. Both are brilliant for attracting attention and encouraging a little friendly competition.
People can race against each other and try to get their name to the top of the leaderboard, which keeps people coming back for another go.
Pedal-Powered Bubble Machine
Families can’t get enough of our pedal-powered bubble machine. Well, mainly the kids!
They can pedal to create the bubbles or get stuck into dancing, jumping and trying to pop as many as possible. It’s incredibly visual, creates some brilliant photo opportunities and gets people moving without them really thinking about it.
At the Tour of Britain, we also saw how something very simple can have an unexpected impact. One visitor particularly enjoyed being surrounded by the bubbles because of the sensory experience they created. It was a lovely reminder that different activities can engage people in very different ways.
What Makes a Good Interactive Event Activity?
When choosing interactive entertainment for an event, we think there are a few simple things worth considering.
Simple: Can someone understand what to do almost immediately?
Inclusive: Can people of different ages and abilities get involved?
Visible: Will the activity grab the attention of people walking past?
Interactive: Are visitors actually doing something rather than simply watching?
Relevant: Does it complement the purpose or message of your event?
For the Tour of Britain, cycling and pedal-powered activities were a natural fit. But the same principles can be applied to corporate events, exhibitions, festivals, community events and brand activations.
